Third generation Excavating Contractor serving Darke County & surrounding areas for over 70 years.

About Hollinger Excavating

We are a third generation excavating contractor, locally owned and operated, serving the Darke County and surrounding areas for over seventy years.

Founded in the 1930’s by R.S. Hollinger and his wife Isabelle just north of New Madison, Ohio, the company was originally called Hollinger Gravel & Sand.  Dipping gravel from the pasture behind his home, R.S. (or “Bill” as he was known to his friends), would deliver gravel and sand in the back of his Ford Model T dump truck.  This piece of our history is still owned by the family to this day.

In later years, Bill passed the company down to his son, Tom and wife Sharon who renamed the company: Tom Hollinger Excavating.  During this time, more complex services were offered, including backhoe and bulldozer work.

By the late 1980’s, Tom and Sharon’s son Doug began working for the company, which then became known as Tom Hollinger & Son Excavating.  Lastly, in 1996 the company incorporated, becoming Hollinger Excavating, Inc., which it continues to be known by today.

Tom and Sharon retired in 2013 and passed the company on to Doug and his wife Amy, making Doug the third generation to own and operate the family excavating company.

Today, Hollinger Excavating offers services to clients in the following industry segments:

  • Residential and other home services
  • Commercial and Industrial sites
  • Farm and Agricultural clients

We provide services to clients mostly in the West-Central Ohio area (Darke County, Preble County, and Butler County) though we will consider projects for clients outside our traditional market area upon request and review.

We appreciate you taking the time to visit our website and become more familiar with our company.  Please contact us today if you need services specific to our experience in excavating whether it is for residential, commercial, or civic.
